As Long as the Rivers Flow: The Story of the Grassy Narrows Blockade

December 7, 2012 1 comment

Created in the winter of 2002/2003

“On December 3rd 2002, a group of people from the First Nations Reserve of Grassy Narrows, acting independently of their band council, began blockading logging roads to protect their traditional landuse area from clearcutting.

To many people, the blockaders are fighting against the ongoing processes of colonialism and to assert rights guaranteed in treaties signed nation to nation.

To others, they are seeking improvements to Ontario’s forestry “consultation process”.

And to many, this blockade is an inspirational act of direct-democracy in a world where corporations are pushing to control everything and everyone.”
